Cardiovascular disease represents the leading cause of death both in the U.S. and globally - over 650,000 deaths annually in the U.S. alone are attributed to some form of heart disease. In addition to the heartbreaking loss of life, the total societal cost of treating heart disease domestically exceeds $500B each year. Perhaps counterintuitively, modern science’s understanding of heart health and how to prevent cardiovascular disease is actually quite strong relative to other disease categories: it is estimated that up to 80% of premature heart attacks and strokes are preventable. The seeming dissonance is largely accounted for by a combination of behavioral and practical factors, as well as a healthcare system that has historically tended toward reactive delivery of care rather than preventative measures. Today, we are thrilled to announce our investment in Miga Health, which is focused on innovative, technology-enabled solutions to prevent the next million heart attacks and strokes.
From our first meeting, we felt drawn to Jarrad and Dre’s shared vision for the future of heart health. While preventative care for large, costly disease categories has been discussed for decades, the rigor with which they sketched out what a successful solution could look like - from program design to GTM - felt novel. The domain expertise they demonstrated in walking through the relevant nuances of our labyrinthe healthcare system left us deeply impressed. Above all, the depth of their passion - obvious from our first interaction and in each interaction since - spoke to their hunger and desire to build an enduring business that did well by doing good. We are proud to announce publicly our partnership to do precisely that, and to support them on their journey as they work to prevent the next million heart attacks and strokes and beyond.
